"I want you to get excited about who you are, what you are, what you have and what you can still be for you. I want to inspire you to see that you can go far beyond where you are right now." - Virgina Satir
Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
I have always been drawn to people's stories. Initially this interest led me to completing a PhD degree in Anthropology. In my studies I was drawn to the topics of trauma, suffering, mental health and resilience. While I loved hearing stories from individuals and communities in my research studies, I wanted more than to research the lives of others. I wanted to provide assistance and support those that might be going through difficult times. This led me to train as a psychotherapist and counsellor.
I am Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) practicing in Toronto. I am licensed by the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (Registration #008198) and am a member of the Canadian Association of Psychodynamic Therapy (CAPT). I am a graduate of the five-year Ontario Psychotherapy and Counseling (OPC) Program. I also completed a one year fellowship in the Social Aetiology of Mental Illness (SAMI) Program run by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the University of Toronto.
My training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, a form of depth psychology that focuses on understanding how our unconscious and relational dynamics impact upon our feelings, experiences and behaviours. In my practice, I offer culturally sensitive, client-centred, and anti oppressive care. I welcome working with diverse populations including newcomers, BIPOC and members of LGBTQ+ communities. I offer services in English and Spanish. Having experienced the power of psychotherapy myself, I now want to share that opportunity for growth, healing and learning with others.
What is my Approach to Therapy?
I approach psychotherapy sessions as a conversation with the aim of helping you to feel safe and heard. I respect your pace and I assist you in working through issues that you bring into the session(s). I am interested to learn about you as whole and not simply as a diagnosis or label. I will work with you to identify the inner obstacles and challenges that are holding you back from being the person you wish to be. Together we will also explore your strengths and capacity for change. I believe we all have the capacity to change within us, and that change happens when we begin to know ourselves deeply.
